Regulation for Spring and Mineral water

In the United States and Australia a Mineral water has a minimum amount of minerals of 250mg /l, Spring water generally contains less Minerals than Mineral water. European legislation requires that a Mineral water is bottled at the source and without some form of prior treatment like ozone or pasteurization (except filtration for iron and sulfur extraction).Besides a Spring and Mineral water may only be called so if the water comes from an underground source and the water is constantly at the same temperature and the composition of the water remains to be the same over a longer period (For instance the analyse of Evian water from 100 years ago show the same Mineral composition as today.

Other facts

The water on the earth consists of 79% salt water and only 3% is fresh water (of which two third frozen). The ground composition is everywhere unique. It is therefore possible for a geologist (when analyzing the composition of a Spring water) to trace where the water comes from.
